Vabina T. Meyers, 85 of Walton, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, December 5, 2014 at Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, NY.

Vabina was born in January, 1929 in Ridgewood, NJ, the daughter of the late Gustav and Jenny (Meester) Trojan. She was a graduate of Nyack High School, Nyack, NY class of 1947. In her high school years she was president of the Central Nyack Congregational Church youth group. On September 8, 1951, she married Frederick Meyers at the Central Nyack Congregational Church. She was employed by the law firm of Brucker, Manley & Finnegan beginning in her senior year of high school, and continuing for 45 years as a legal secretary and as the office manager. She was a member of the Old Stone Church of Upper Nyack, NY and later was a long time attender of Grace Baptist Church of Nanuet, NY, where she and Fred were involved with the youth ministry. She taught Sunday school to foster children at the Lakeside School (part of the Edwin Gould Foundation) in Spring Valley, NY and at the St. Agatha Convent in Nanuet, NY for years. Vabina was also a member and past-president of the Rockland County Legal Secretary's Association.

Vabina and Fred moved to Walton, NY in 1991, at the time of their retirement. Her strong faith and compassionate heart inspired her to become active at the First Baptist Church of Walton as Sunday school superintendent, 2nd grade Sunday school teacher and treasurer of Women's Fellowship. She was a member of the board of directors of Delaware Opportunities, a Salvation Army and Red Cross representative for Walton and worked tirelessly with Fred at her side as coordinator of the Walton Food Bank for 21 years

She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her husband Fred of 63 years, her daughters Judy and Lori and their husbands, her brother Vincent and sister Dolly, her grandsons, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, her many nieces and nephews, her friends, her church family, her co-workers and those whose lives she touched at the food bank.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 pm at the New Hope Community Church, 45 Stockton Ave, Walton with the Rev Jay O'Connor and Rev. Larry Light, officiating.
