Verna S. Fitch, 59 of Walton passed away suddenly Saturday morning, October 10, 2015, at Delaware Valley Hospital.

Verna was born on March 24, 1956 in Middletown, the daughter of the late Richard H. and Marion J. (Lewis) Smith. On September 4, 1976, she married her soul mate Milton E. Fitch in Trout Creek.

Verna was employed at Delaware Valley Hospital for many years. Before that she worked at the Countryside Care Center and McDonalds of Delhi and Walton.

Verna loved to sew. She was a skilled seamstress who hemmed wedding gowns and other dresses for her many friends. She also loved quilting and crocheting. She will be remembered as a hard worker who had pride in everything she did.

Verna is survived by her husband, Milt; her children, Tammy and Delbert Van Dyke, Franklin; Wayne and Juli Fitch, Chenango Forks; Debra and James Turner, Clifton Springs; and Scott and Amy Fitch, Walton, grandchildren, Nathaniel, Megan, Andrew, Lindsey, Brandon, Jaelin, Tyler, Morgan, Keagan, Miranda, Kenzie, Kiersten, Damien, Kaden, Madison, and Nevaeh; Great-grandchildren, Blake and Memphis; a very special uncle, Earl Wood, Walton; brothers, Henry Smith, Walton, Samuel and Joann Smith, Sidney Center, Michael Smith, Walton, sister, Mary Jean Possemato, Sidney Center; Melora Macdonald, Deposit; and Margaret Smith, Boston, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Verna was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Marion; sisters, Audrey Smith and Linda Fitch; father-in-law, Eben Fitch, brother-in-law, Eben Fitch Jr. and special uncle, Michael Culver.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday evening, October 12, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 13 at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton, NY.
