Victor J. Danowski, 86, a resident of Claxton Manor, Herkimer, and a former resident of Walton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, June 1, 2010.
Victor was born on September 7, 1923 in Warrior Run, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Peter and Catherine (Mlyczka) Danowski. He proudly served his country during WW II in the US Army in the 29th Infantry Div., 2nd Battalion during the Normandy invasion on Omaha Beach. On June 22, 1947 he married the former Nellie Franskevicz at Hancock, for a blessed union of 58 years. She died on April 16, 2006.
Victor worked for for many years on highway construction. He and Nellie also owned the Nelvic Farm in Finch Hollow Rd., Walton; He was a member of the DAV, the BVA (Blinded Veterans), and the Rock Royal Co-op. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, the casino's and BINGO.
Victor is survived by his loving family, his 3 daughters, Kathleen (Frank) Schmit, Otego; Sharon Danowski, Herkimer, Annette (Michael) Casacci, Canandaigua; grandchildren, Amy Schmit, Otego; Ryan (Amy) Schmit, Monroe, Ohio;; Dana (Shauna) Michael, Middleville; Eric (Jennifer) Michael, Danbury,Connecticut; Luke (Andrea) Michael, Ilion; Brad Casacci, Canandaigua. His Great Grandchildren; Ashlea Egner, Jack Michael, John Michael, and Aiden Schmit, his sister-in-Law, Anna Mapes, several nieces, and nephews. Victor was predeceased by his brothers; Walter, John, and Joseph Zula; Stanley Donowski, his sister, Mary Franskevicz, and a great-grandson, Evan Schmit.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday morning,from 9 to 10:30 AM on June 4, 2010, at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. A Mass of Christian Burial on Friday morning at 11 AM at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Walton, with the Rev. Christopher J. Welch, officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery, with full military honors.
