Victoria "Vicki" (Shaw) Houck, age 59, died after a prolonged illness on July 24, 2016, at home in Downsville, NY while surrounded by her loving and dedicated family.
Vicki is survived by her husband, Darryl Houck; her children Jamie (Crystal) Houck of Downsville, and Ryan (Sheri) Houck, of Norwich NY; her grandchildren, Kayla, Travis, Brody and Ryan Jr; her mother Jean Shaw; her mother-in-law Jackie Houck; her siblings Deborah (Philip) Odell, Rick (Lori) Shaw, Melissa (David) Lawrence all of Downsville, and Cindy (Hans) Shaw-Tuneblom of Lexington Mass; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Richard Shaw Jr. and grandmother Leora Shaver, both of Downsville.
Vicki was born on June 3, 1957 in Walton, NY, to Richard and Jean Shaw. She graduated from Downsville Central School in 1975. She married her high school sweetheart Darryl Houck on October 23, 1976. Together they lived in Maine, Virginia and Pennsylvania before returning to their hometown of Downsville in the summer of 1991 as owners of the Catskill Mountain Kampground. Vicki also worked as a Real Estate agent for Upper Delaware Realty and an account clerk for Downsville Central School.
Vicki was a kind-hearted, hard-working woman with a deep love for her family, friends and church. She loved spending time, especially vacationing, with her grandchildren and attending many celebrations with her large extended family. She was very active in her church, singing in the choir and acting as church Treasurer for many years. She was an avid DCS Eagle fan, and could often be found on the sidelines or in the stands of school activities. Vicki also took great pride in her work both in the school and in real estate. She was admired and loved by many. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and kindness.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 30 at 11:00 am at the Colchester Community United Methodist Church, in Downsville. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Triple Negative Breast Care Foundation (www.tnbcfoundation.org) or to the Colchester Community United Methodist Church, P.O Box 305, Downsville, NY 13755.
