Violet J. Vail, of Kerrville, TX, formerly of Walton, passed away Monday morning, January 1, 2018 at the Villagio in Kerrville, TX, following a long illness.

Violet was born on September 21, 1922 in Tabor, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of the late T. George and Marjorie (Shapley) Johnston. She married Willard F. Vail on May 15, 1943 at Bovina, NY. He died on August 15, 1991 in Walton. She was a graduate of Andes Central School and Albany Business School. Violet was employed as a secretary first at Walton Central School and later by the State University at Delhi.

Violet enjoyed knitting, sewing and reading. She also realized the importance of taking care of herself and did aerobics up until her

illness made it difficult. For many years Violet enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren locally and in Texas.

Violet is survived by her loving family, two daughters: Diane Theiss of Kerrville, TX; and Linda & Joseph Pescatore of West Haverstraw, NY; one son: Thomas J. Vail of Walton, NY; grandchildren, Julie and Andrew, Jennifer and Flordelino, Kendra and Doug, Karey, and Tony and Dara; great-grandchildren, Daryl, Phoebe, Kaitlyn, Owen and Joseph; one sister, Helen Johnston of Jacksonville, AL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a grandson, Billy Vail, 2 brothers, Allan and John Johnston and a son in law, Darryl Theiss.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 1PM to 2PM at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street Walton where services will be held at 2PM with Pastor Kent Terchunian, Officiating.
