Obituary

Wayne A. Kilmer, age 83, of Hamden, NY, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025. Born on May 26, 1941, in Walton, NY, to his parents Donald Kilmer, Eleanor MacDonald. Wayne lived a life rich with love, laughter, and adventure.

Wayne was known for his warm heart and kind spirit. As a dedicated bus driver for ARC, and many other places, he touched the lives of many, always wearing a smile and brightening each passenger's day. He held an associate's degree and took great pride in his work, valuing the connections he made along the way.

A man of many passions, Wayne loved cooking, fishing, and hunting. He took every opportunity to explore the great outdoors and enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, Theresa. The couple cherished their trips to Las Vegas over the past nine winters, creating memories that will forever warm the hearts of those who knew them. As well as a beautiful legacy of family. He adored spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, nurturing those relationships dearly and always finding joy in family gatherings.Wayne served honorably in the United States Marine Corps for four years, a testament to his commitment and love for his country. Following his military service, he pursued a diverse career, working at IBM and later as a chef in hospitals and restaurants. His passion for service was further exemplified during his time as a driver for Meals on Wheels in Walton, where he touched the lives of many through his kindness and caring spirit.

Wayne leaves behind his loving wife, Theresa Kilmer, his children; Scott (Dawn) Kilmer of Las Vegas, NV and Tana (Pete) Gustafson of Manchester, NH. His brothers; Ryan (Beverly) Kilmer, Lynn (Amy) Kilmer, his sisters; Sharon Placek – Kilmer, Loretta (Marty) Foster, and Joanne (David) Forry. Wayne is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; Donald and Eleanor Kilmer, his first wife Irene, his sister Linda Shackelton, and his brother Gene Kilmer.

Wayne's life was truly a celebration of love, kindness, and adventure, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

Calling hours will be held at the Courtney Funeral Home Wednesday March 12, 2025, from 2pm-6pm located at 25 Townsend St, Walton, NY 13856. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family in Downsville, NY Thursday March 13, 2025, at 3pm, with Father Golding Officiating. Located at 14918 Route 30, Downsville, NY 13755.
