Wilbert "Bill" McIntyre, a long-time Walton resident, passed away peacefully October 23, 2011 at the Atria Crossgates Assisted Living Center, Albany, NY.
Bill was born in New Berlin, NY March 10, 1909, to Foster and Flora (Benedict) McIntyre, Bill was 102 years old. Bill graduated from Walton Central School and attended Rider College for one year, leaving during the depression to work in his father's grocery. He married Mildred White, Halls Station, PA in 1934, who passed away from illness shortly thereafter. He married the former Joyce Cable, Downsville, in 1941. Bill served in the U. S. Navy from 1942 to 1945, stationed in Newport News, VA.
After his discharge, Bill worked briefly for the New York Life Insurance Company in NYC, before going to work for NYSEG as a lineman for 30 years. In addition to music, he greatly enjoyed sports, especially football and baseball, and faithfully attended all WHS football games for many decades.
Bill is survived by his loving family, children Dennis (Susan) McIntyre of Stamford, CT; John (Julia) McIntyre of Montara, CA; and Linda (Thomas) Hines of Narragansett, RI. Bill leaves four grandchildren, Patrick Hines, Kevin Hines, Ryan McIntyre, Erin (McIntyre) Yount, and nine great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 29, 2011 in Walton Cemetery at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Lisa Ruth Mays Officiating.
Memorial donations in Bill's memory may be made to the American Red Cross in Delaware County, 520 East Main Street, Endicott, NY 13750.
