Wilbur J. Scofield, 68 passed away Sunday morning, October 22, 2006 in Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, after a short illness.
Will was born in Walton on July 5, 1938, the son of the late Leslie & Elise Wolcott Scofield. He graduated from Walton Central School, class of 1957. He married the former Linda Bush in 1995, and they had 11 wonderful years together. Will was a fifth generation Quarryman, working with his dad and brothers. He was last employed as a heavy equipment operator with the Delaware County Highway Dept., retiring after 20 years. Will was known for his unique and wonderful talent carving in Bluestone. His work is displayed all over the country, and some out of the country. He has been featured many times for his talent. His most prized accomplishment being a replica of the old Walton School which the class of 1956 donated and still stands in front of the new high school. Will was also active in the Arts Council of the Delaware County Fair. He was a member of the Masonville Federated Church.
Will is survived by his loving wife, Linda, children, Kevin and Susan Scofield of Sidney; stepchildren, John (Debbie) Zale, Surprise, NY; Laurinda (Michael) Dineen, Contansia, NY; Melissa (Ricky) Ackerly, Delhi; Debra (Ernest) Valentine, Walton; Daniel (Christina) Zale, Hamden; Joel Zale, Delhi; 6 stepgrandchildren, and 1 special step-greatgrandson, 2 sisters, Rose Finch, Walton; Catherine (Stanley) Beers, Sidney;2 brothers, Marcus Scofield, Sidney; Rexford (Jean) Scofield, Sidney; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his first wife, Sandra Earl Scofield.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday evening, October 24, 2006, from 6 to 8 PM at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home 25 Townsend St. Walton, where services will be held on Wednesday morning at 11 AM with the Rev. Robert Howard, pastor of the Masonville Federated Church, officiating. Memorial contributions in Will's memory may be made to the Masonville Federated Church or the Masonville Fire Dept., PO Box 362, Masonville, NY 13804. Envelopes for memorial contributions may be obtained by contacting the funeral home.
