Obituary

Willa B. Houck, 93, of Walton, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 25, 2018 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home.

Willie was born on March 20, 1924 in Wayne County, WV, the daughter of the late Jesse and Esther (Lambert) Hall. She was a graduate of Credo-Kenova HS.

Willie met her future husband when he was in the Navy. Virgil E. Houck and Willie were married on January 26, 1945 at Catlettsburg, KY. They made their home in San Diego, Imperial Beach, Calif., and Bainbridge Island, Wash., finally settling in Walton. Virgil died on March 18, 1999.

Willie had been employed by Western Union in West Virginia and California as an Automatic Operator, later Bendix in Sidney as a coil winder for airplanes. She also worked for many years as a secretary at the Townsend Elementary School in Walton.

Willie is survived by two sons: William & Suzanne Houck of League City, TX and Stephen & Gaye Houck of Walton, NY; grandchildren, Vanessa Filla & Jason Houck, of League City, TX; Tarra Barnhart and Melissa Houck of Walton; great-grandchildren, Dustin Barnhart and Elijah Houck, sisters, Jesse Lee, Poway, CA and Julia Harvey, San Diego; brother in law, Eric and Ruth Houck, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Sallie Gabrowski.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Saturday, February 3, 2018, from 1 to 2 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, Walton, where services will be held at 2 PM , with Pastor Larry Light, officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery, Walton in the spring.

Memorial contributions in Willie's memory may be made to Heart of the Catskills Animal Shelter, PO Box 88, Delhi, NY 13753. Ms. Kitty, her companion for many years, came from this shelter.

Willie spent the last three years of her life in the Roscoe Nursing Home. The family would like to thank them for all their support, kindness and love that they gave her.
