William "Bill" Burton Burghart, 74, of Walton passed away surrounded by his family, Tuesday morning, April 30, 2013 at Wilson Memorial Hospital.

Bill was born on May 20, 1938 in Walton, the son of the late Robert and Christina (Budine) Burghart. Bill was a graduate of Walton High School, class of 1957. On March 12, 1966 he married the former Dorothy Pierce. He proudly served his country in the US Army. Bill was self-employed at his welding and fabricating shop where he helped many people by fixing their equipment.

Bill was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Walton where he served as a trustee for many years and sat on many committees. He was a member of the American Legion, Truman C. Tobey Post 32 and the Walton VFW, Apex Sportsmen Club, and the Wildlife Sportsmen Federation. Bill loved hunting, fishing, bowling, boating, camping, gardening and visiting with his friends over a cup of coffee at TA's. He was a hard worker that was always busy and was well rounded in his interests. He especially loved his family and spending time with his kids and grandkids watching them play sports and attending their musical events. He would readily help those in need with the considerable skill and knowledge he possessed.

Bill is survived by his loving family, his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Burghart; four daughters: Debbie and Mike Furman; Cindy Walley, Michelle and Mike Hogan, and Terri and Bill Hoyt, all of Walton; a sister, Janice and Dick Hoag of Unadilla; and three brothers, Robert and Rita Burghart of Marshall, MI; Raymond Burghart of Walton; Roy Burghart and Jennifer of Walton; 9 grandchildren, Jay and Steph, Gina and Bryon, Corey and Heather, Brooke and Chris, Ethan and Lacey, Mandy Rae, Mike II, Carlee and Kendra, great-grandchildren, Aireonna, Ella, Scarlett, Riley, Charley and Lenox. step-mother, Alice Burghart; special friend Robert Beezer Wilke, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was predeceased by a son-in-law, William Walley in 2009.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 5 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning, at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 101 North St., Walton, NY with the Rev. Mark Del Giudice, officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery, with full military honors.
