Obituary

William L. "Bill" Martin, 81, of Walton passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, March 26, 2011 at University Hospital of Syracuse, NY. Bill was born on May 25, 1929 in Cannonsville, the son of the late Harry and Nell (Oliver) Martin. He was a graduate of Deposit High School. On October 3, 1953 he married the former Stella Klinegardner. Bill proudly served his country in the US Air Force. He later worked for the Walton Central School as a custodian and bus driver.

Bill was a faithful member of the Northfield Community Church and the Walton VFW. He was a big baseball fan who enjoyed watching the New York Yankees and the Syracuse Orangemen basketball team.

Bill is survived by his loving family, his wife, Stella, four daughters: Kim (Richard) Hughes of North Syracuse, NY, Melissa Riddell, and Karina (William) Sulger both of Walton; Jonelle (Joe) Doyle of Clifton Park; ten grandchildren, CJ, Whitney, Tyler, Travis, Casey, Brooke, Jade, Justine, Stephanie, and Robert; seven great grandchildren, Braiden, Cillon, Kimber, Rick, Marissa, Dominick and Hailey; one sister: Pauline Alberta of Ithaca; brothers and sisters in law, Harvey and Ginger Klinegardner, Texas and Tracy and Kaleen Sprague, Georgia, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Martin in 1999, brothers, Glen, Robert, Roland, Lynn and Ed and sisters, Katherine, Stella and Dorothy.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday afternoon, March 29 from 4 to 7 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where services will be held on Wednesday morning, at 11 AM with the Rev Marv Root, pastor of the Northfield Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery with full military honors.
