William Schenkel, 77, of Downsville formerly of the Bronx, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital of Rochester, following a long struggle.

Bill was born on December 15, 1939 in Switzerland, the son of the late Jacob and Ida (Balsiger) Schenkel. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy from 1961-1963.

Bill worked for Con Ed in New York City. He belonged to Starling AC, in the Bronx for 40 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, fishing, and playing cards especially pinochle and poker.

Bill is survived by his loving family, his children, John J. (Josie) Schenkel of Washington State; Christine (Victor) Perez of the Bronx; Rose (Tim) Schenkel of Downsville; William J. (Denise) Schenkel of Downsville; Michael (Rosemarie) Schenkel of the Bronx, grandchildren, "JJ", Courtney, Brandon, Andrew, Jacqueline, Chelsea, William J. Jr., Cassandra, great grandchildren, Liana, Daniel, Amelia, Joshua, and Skylar. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Schenkel in 1987 and brother, Jackie Schenkel.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 4 to 7 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton and Tuesday from 11 AM to 1 PM where a Prayer Service will be held at 1 PM with the Rev. Edward J. Golding, officiating. Burial will follow in Paige Cemetery with full military honors.
