William J Wells, 63 of Downsville passed away Friday afternoon, August 26, 2011 at home, surrounded by his family.

Bill was born on October 29, 1947 in West Hempstead, the son of the late Percy and Olive (Bennett) Wells. He married the former Vicki Dean on June 20, 1970 in Walton. Bill was first employed at S.J. Bailey's in Walton and later worked in the area as a union carpenter. Bill and Vicki also owned B. J.'s Sof-Ser. in Downsville before it was destroyed by fire. They also owned an ice cream truck, which ran in Walton.

Bill enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and attending Robinson's Auction on Tuesday's and Thursdays.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife, Vicki, two daughters: Billie Jo (Glenn) Pomeroy of Walton, NY, Lori (Eli) Delgado of Weedsport, NY and one son: Joe (Jessica) Wells of Schenectady, 5 grandchildren, Rebecca, Collin, Billy, Isabella, and Jacob, one sister, Dona (Donald) Tompkins of Downsville, brothers and sisters-in-law, Everett and Sherrie Dean, Walton, Charlene and Eugene Bailey, Carbondale, Norma Collier, Unadilla, Sharon Young, Sidney, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 2 at the New Hope Community Church, 45 Stockton Ave., Walton, NY with Rev. Larry Light and Pastor E.J. Lowell, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820 or the New Hope Community Church, 45 Stockton Ave., Walton, NY 13856.
