Sidney- Winfield I. Protheroe, 80, passed away May 31, 2019 at the Robinson Terrace Nursing Home In Stamford NY.
Winfield was born on June 26, 1938 in Walton, a son of the late Henry Demmon and Esther Elizabeth Alverson Protheroe.
He grew up and attended school in Sidney Center.
For many years he was employed by Amphenol as a hand trucker and he was member of the Local IAM Union.
Winfield was an avid sports fan, routing for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Los Angeles Dodgers (formerly the Brooklyn Dodgers). In his younger years he enjoyed bowling and snowmobiling. He loved new cars and often had two.
He enjoyed his Wednesdays at "Our Place"; a senior program in Walton. He was also a member of the Assembly of God Church, Walton.
Summers found Winfield and his brother Lewis at all the county fairs especially the Delaware County Fair in Walton. A special thank you to the many local churches and restaurants who understood their limitations and treated them with kindness and respect.
Winfield is survived by his daughter Rita, his brother and best friend Lewis, currently a resident of The Pavilion at Robinson Terrace Stamford NY.
He was predeceased by his parents and his older brother Robert of California.
Family and friends are invited to call at Courtney Funeral Home 25 Townsend Street Walton on Wednesday June 12, 2019 from 10 am to 11 am. After calling hours a memorial service will begin at 11am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Walton Cemetery.
