IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Zoe
O'Brien
May 22, 1933 – March 21, 2023
With profound sadness we announce the passing of Zoe Neff O'Brien, our loving and devoted mother and friend to all who's lives she touched on March 21, 2023, at her memory care facility, the Addison of Indian Trail in North Carolina, as she was suffering with dementia.
She died at the age of 89 years old, just shy of turning 90 by two months and a day. Zoe was born in Colchester New York on May 22, 1933, to the late Ward and Mildred Neff. She was raised in Downsville New York on a dairy farm which was diagonally across from the Downsville High School where she graduated as Valedictorian.
Zoe was an amazing cook and baker. Everyone enjoyed all her food but infamous for her home-made rolls and press-out cookies. There were many of years that we all enjoyed and fought over these delectables. She had worked in sales in the retail industry for over 25 years. She also enjoyed collecting beautiful glassware and hundreds of various kinds of tchotchkes that made her house always feel very country which would remind her of her childhood on the farm. Zoe was our very own version of Martha Stewart with her many crafty talents, love of the flowers and gardens and much more.
Zoe was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Steve, her brothers Bob and Ward Neff, her son-n-law Bruce Keller and grandson Michael Chagnon. She is survived by her sister Melanie (Bob) Renner, her six children; Kathryn (Jeff) Chagnon, Linda (Jim) Sabatella, Robert (Maria) Haughey, Suzanne (Michael) Stritch, Kathleen Keller and James (Barbara) Haughey. Zoe also had 8 grandchildren: Jeffrey and Michelle Chagnon, Bryan Sabatella, Genevieve Lee Haughey, Justin and Megan Stritch, Madysen Keller, and Jesse Haughey. Zoe was also blessed with four great grandchildren: Lily and Colin Warde plus Miles and Arlo Chagnon.
Zoe's' wishes were to be laid to rest with her parents at the Paige Cemetery in Downsville New York. There will be a service at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, New York at 2:30pm on May 6, 2023 followed by the burial at the Paige Cemetery, Downsville.
The family wishes in lieu of flowers to please donate to the Dementia Society of America.
